Understanding the Problem
What Is Addiction?
A Biblical perspective on understanding and overcoming addiction.
The World's View vs. The Bible's View
The world often tells us that addiction is simply a disease—something we have no control over. But the Bible offers a different perspective. While we acknowledge the very real physical and psychological components of addiction, Scripture teaches that at its core, addiction is a sin problem that requires a spiritual solution.
"Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." — John 8:34
The Bondage of Sin
Addiction is a form of bondage. It starts with a choice, but over time, that choice becomes a chain. The good news is that Jesus came to set the captives free. True freedom is found not in willpower alone, but in the transforming power of Christ.
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." — John 8:36
There Is Hope
No matter how deep the addiction, no matter how long you've struggled, there is hope. Many in our church family have testimonies of God's delivering power. He can do the same for you.
