Refusing to be Comfortable About the Lost

Sunday 5 October 2025 Pastor Craig Ledbetter 2 Kings 6-7

I. Introduction (Romans 10:13-15)

A. It is our Mission’s Month

An entire month dedicated to us getting a burden for souls – becoming concerned more about the spiritual condition of people than their physical condition!

B. This month we are going to learn about soul-winning, about Missionaries, and about giving

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” - Romans 10:13-15

  1. Everyone needs to hear the gospel and believe it!

    • Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, Atheist, Agnostic, Pagan
    • Irish, French, Spanish, German, American
    • Scientists, teenagers, Moms, Dads…
    • Everyone needs to know what Jesus did for them!
  2. But… How are people all over the world going to hear the Gospel?

    • Don’t leave it to the internet and YouTube
    • That is a start, and people do hear the Gospel via modern technology
    • But the best way to win souls is still one to one, heart to heart, face to face
  3. By every believer telling people, declaring, preaching the only news that matters…

  4. That GOD came into our world and lived just like us for 33 and ½ years

    • Jesus did everything that He demanded of us perfectly – every commandment
    • Then laid down His own life at the hands of wicked men in place of every sinner
    • He was buried
    • And three days later rose to life again – conquering not only sin but death as well!
    • He did all of that for all of us – to BE forgiven, and to make the only way to God possible through Him!
    • THAT is the GOSPEL – not your baptism, or prayer life, or giving record…
    • Just believing what JESUS alone did for you and for me!
  5. Listen to just a few of the things Jesus purchased for sinful people:

    • Absolute and complete forgiveness of every sin on my record

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” - Ephesians 1:6,7

    • Accepted by God now, and loved as part of His family

    • Eternal life instead of eternal punishment in hell

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” - Romans 6:23

    • The Holy Spirit living in every believer

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” - 1 Corinthians 3:16

    • Mansions in heaven on streets of gold

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” - John 14:1-3

    • I think getting born again is the best thing that could ever happen to anybody

C. But there is a problem…

  1. We Christians FORGET that we used to be lost, used to be wicked and live ungodly, and were in need of someone being brave enough to tell us the Gospel

    • Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me… I once was LOST but NOW am found, was blind, but now I see!
    • We should NEVER get over the day we repented and believed the Gospel and were born again!
    • Yet we do.
  2. And we are COMFORTABLE, not caring about the lost around us

II. Conclusion

A. We must refuse to be comfortable while souls are perishing

B. Remember what it was like to be lost

C. The Gospel is the greatest news – share it!

D. Will you pray for and give to missions this month?
